What we fix in your driveway
Everything below is a job we do on-site, with the tools already in the van. If it needs a lift, a frame machine or a paint booth, we'll tell you straight and point you to a shop we trust instead of pretending otherwise.

Oil & filter change
Drain, new filter, new oil to the manufacturer's spec, plus a 20-point look-over while the hood's up. We bring the oil, the filter and the disposal pan — you don't buy anything.

Brakes — pads, rotors, calipers
Grinding, squealing, a soft pedal or a pulsing stop. We measure pad depth and rotor thickness in front of you, show you the numbers, and only replace what's actually worn.

Battery test & replacement
We load-test the battery and test the alternator output before selling you anything. If it's a loose terminal or a parasitic drain, you'll hear that instead of a battery quote.

No-start & check-engine diagnostics
Cranks but won't fire, dead in the driveway, or a light that's been on for three months. We pull the codes, read live sensor data, and give you a written explanation of what failed and what it costs to fix.

You call
Tell us the year, make and model, the address we're coming to, and what the car is doing. Two minutes on the phone is usually enough to know whether it's a driveway job.

We quote before we drive
You get a price range and a time window up front. If the job turns out to be something different once we're under the hood, we stop and call you before spending another dollar of your money.

We come to you
Home, condo visitor parking, office lot, or the side of the road. We need roughly one and a half car widths of space and permission to work where the car is parked.

You watch, or you don't
Plenty of customers stand and ask questions the whole time — that's welcome. Plenty go back inside and get on with their day. Either is fine. We clean up and take the old parts with us.

Who you're calling
A1 Mechanix started in 2016 with one van, a set of hand tools and a simple bet: that most of what a neighbourhood garage does every day — oil, brakes, batteries, belts, a diagnostic scan — doesn't actually need a building. It needs someone who knows what they're looking at and shows up when they said they would.
Ten years on, that's still the whole business. We're a small crew working out of Richmond Hill, covering Markham, Thornhill, Vaughan and the north end of Toronto. We don't run a shop, we don't have a service writer, and we don't have a waiting room with a coffee machine — which is exactly why the price on a brake job is usually a fair bit lower than what you'd pay for the same parts and the same labour at a dealership.
What we do have is a van that's stocked for the jobs we quote, a scanner that reads live data instead of just codes, and a habit of showing customers the worn part before it goes in the recycling bin. If a repair is beyond what we can safely do in a driveway, we'll tell you that on the phone rather than after we've arrived.
Common questions
- Do I need to be there while you work?
- No. Plenty of customers leave a key and go back to work. We'll call you with the findings and send photos before anything gets replaced.
- What if my car is in an underground garage?
- Fine, as long as there's clearance for the van and about a car and a half of working space. Tell us the garage height on the phone and we'll confirm before booking.
- Can you do this in winter?
- Yes — we work outside year-round. If it's below about −15°C or there's heavy snow, we may ask to reschedule to protect both the car and the job.
- Do you supply the parts?
- We do, sourced from local suppliers. If you'd rather supply your own parts, that's fine too — we'll quote labour only and note that the part itself won't carry our warranty.
- Is there a call-out fee?
- There's a travel charge built into the quote, and you'll see it before you agree to anything. No surprise line items when the job's done.
